Exactly

I was reading Notes in Samsara just now (a great Buddhist blog by the way) when I came across a link to a really cool article about making an omelet, which Mumonno points out, is a well-written piece about Buddhism, really.

In the article, the writer sums up what I have been trying to get across about "attention to breath" or any so-called basic practice that many Buddhists eschew for more "advanced" fair...

Mind you, this is about making an omelet, ostensibly.

"Things are only simple when you’ve stopped asking the right questions of them, when you’ve stopped finding new ways to see them. Because what you find, when you learn how to find it, is that even simple things can be wonderfully, frustratingly, world-openingly complex."

Thanks for the link, people don't realize just what good practice cooking can be.

Everyone can do it, we all just start from different places. Only effort will get us from here to there but in the end it's still just food.

I've known chef instructors like the one in this article and they really do light up like young cooks, the age and distinction melting away into an identifiable human being, a peer with the same pleasures as you.

Hi Gniz -

Hope you and yours are well.

THIS struck me as maybe relevant or useful in the long-running debate you're having with some of us shikantaza types about goals/goal-lessness. (Watch from 41.00 exactly).

And THIS - an article by Mike Luetchford that I've linked before on HCZ - very well describes the 'Dogen Zen' objections to (some) notions of mindfulness. If you've not yet read it - or even if you have - I'd be interested to know what you make of it. I think it may answer many of your questions about 'the point' of 'objectless sitting'.

...Because it seems you're having a really hard time trying to be a better person. Perhaps you're trying too hard?

Just a well-intentioned thought, G :)
